Trucker country

The genre of country music is a bit broader than the general public of Europe would think.

For this reason, we will cover a blog post series digging deeper into some of the subgenres or perspectives. 

Grady Smith has an excellent video about the subgenres - and as he puts it perfectly “Arguing about the genre is a part of the DNA of the genre”.

For this first post in this series, we are going to talk about Trucker country

Not to be confused with other subgenres which are focusing more on pickup trucks, Trucker country could be said to be a mix of country rock and traditional country.

While many artists definitely include some terms, and perhaps songs about truck stops, big rigs and long hauls, some artists focus on this area because this was or is their work.

We have Red Simpson and Dick Curless but also more recent artists such as Tony Justice, who has become a voice for truck drivers. 

Tony Justice captures the life on the road, the independence, and the hard work that comes with it. 

One of our favorite songs with him is definitely “Last of the Cowboy”
